The celebration of the 119th anniversary of Northwest University (NWU) was held at its Chang'an campus in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province, on Oct 15.
At the celebration, Guo Lihong, president of NWU, introduced the achievements of the university since the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period.
Guo stated that in the coming period the university will continue to forge ahead. It will promote interdisciplinary integration to produce more high-level scientific research, and improve the talent system in an effort to become a center for talent and innovation.
He called on all teachers, students, and alumni to share their most significant achievements to in celebration of the 120th anniversary of the university and to welcome a new chapter in its high-quality development.
Liu Changming, a 1956 alumnus and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang Zijin, a 1982 alumnus and professor at Renmin University of China, and Yan Jianya, a 1988 alumnus, won the university's 5th Outstanding Alumni Magnolia Award.
Guo Lihong and Cheng Wuyan, curators of the China Three Gorges Museum in Chongqing, signed the cooperation framework agreement on carrying out cultural heritage protection and research, and unveiled the teaching and research practice base.
To celebrate the 120th anniversary of the university, Wang Zhanli, president of Shaanxi Jianglin Group, donated 5 million yuan ($776,581.28) to support the development of NWU's medical discipline.
The launch ceremony of the 120th anniversary of NWU was also held that day. In the 120th anniversary year, NWU will hold a series of activities with a variety of different themes.
